Read Romans 12 (NRSV)
You are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 1 Corinthians 12:27 (NIV)
Tyler Wood, from North Carolina, was surprised by his wife on his birthday. She gave him a trip to a bird park in their state. Some of the birds were iridescent and bright, showing off an array of colors, while others were earth tones of brown, green, and gray. As Tyler marveled at the beautiful diversity of these creatures, he thought of another wonderful part of God's creation - humanity. We are also beautifully diverse - varying in culture, language, and appearance.
We each have different experiences, gifts, and stories to share. Even within our own communities, no two of us are exactly alike. Yet, like the birds, we are united by one Creator - our loving God who fashioned each of us uniquely with love and purpose.
This truth leads us to celebrate one another with respect, humility, and compassion, for we are all made in the image of God. Our diversity is a wonderful display of God's creativity. Though different, each voice is important. We each have something to teach, and we all have much to learn. In a world so often divided, may we as Christ's followers model what it means to be diverse and yet united as we honor and cherish one another.
Prayer: God of creation, thank you for the diversity in our world. Help us to be respectful and compassionate toward others as we celebrate Your goodness and creativity, in Jesus' name, amen.
