Seeking Guidance

October 15, 2019

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be a healing for your flesh and a refreshment for your body.

Honor the Lord with your substance and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.

My child, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves the one he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. Proverbs 3:5-12 (NRSV)

Throughout Ed Romero's life, he has faced situations where he was uncertain of what to do and was afraid of making choices on his own. Isn't this true for most of us? Before Ed truly entrusted his life to God, he believed that every aspect of his life had a 50% chance of success; if he made the wrong choice, he would fail. Unfortunately, he often doubted his decisions and would spend hours regretting the things he did. How many hours have you/I wasted regretting things we have done?

After a few years, Ed grew to understand Christ's power and faithfulness more clearly. His problems became less stressful and he began to rely fully on the Lord to guide him, trusting that God would lead him to good things.

He would regularly remind himself of the motto "God is good all the time."  I have often said this. How about you? It is easy to forget this motto during times of distress. When we remember that God is always by our side, we can stop focusing on smaller issues and find great comfort. When we seek God's will, we can live in confidence knowing that God is always working for our good.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we thank you for the lives you have given us. Help us find comfort in you and trust that you are guiding us toward the good, in Jesus' name, amen.
