Peace in the Storm

September 18, 2019

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, tough the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult. Psalm 46: 1-3 (NRSV)

If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my misery. Psalm 119:92 (NRSV)

Trish Krider lives here in Florida, and for the first time in all the years that she had lived here, a hurricane threatened their home. She had seen the destruction that is created in the wake of a devastating storm, but never before had it been so personal. As they anxiously watched the reports of the pummeling of islands in its path, they prepared their home as best they could and sought safer ground on which to wait it out.

The waiting was filled with fear, uncertainty, and stress. They had no way of knowing exactly where the storm would hit and what its aftermath would be. They worried not only for themselves but for their friends and family. And they prayed.

Through it all, one constant brought Trish peace. She knew that God was with them and would see them through, no matter what the hurricane left in its wake. When the winds had died down and we began the trip home, Trish was at peace knowing that - no matter what awaited them - they would get through it with God by their side.

How easy it is to forget God is there when we are in the midst of a storm; but that is when we usually need Him the most. Trust in Him and He will see you through. It may not be easy going but God will carry us when needed. Remember the footprints in the sand along the beach. There were two sets of prints and then there was only one. Man said, "where did you go God?" God replied, "I didn't go anywhere; that was when I carried you."

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to remember that no storm in life is too devastating for you to handle, in Jesus' name, amen.
