Then God said, "Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. " So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them. Genesis 1: 26-27 (NRSV)
Janet Asbridge, from Washington, was with her husband at the Honolulu Zoo and were laughing at the gray birds with pink faces that made them look as if they were blushing. They marveled at red, green, and yellow parrots that squawked from the trees. When Janet saw a blue bird with a crest that looked like a fancy hat, she thought about the way that humans were created in God's own image.
We create clothing as colorful as God made birds' feathers. We use trees God made to create tables and houses. Pictures of God's beautiful world adorn our walls. Watching TV or scrolling through social media sites can leave us feeling unsatisfied. But when we create a delicious dinner for our families or paint a picture we feel fulfilled.
Our creative God made us to be creative beings. When we create something - plant a garden, sing a song, or make a hat - we're happier because we're fulfilling God's purpose for us. The possibilities for creativity are as big as the world that God created for us to enjoy. So be creative to day and make something you enjoy; whether it be a meal or a picture or a new outfit. If possible share with others. I know a group of ladies who get together to create cards that they then use as gifts.
Prayer: Dear God, give us ideas and confidence to use the creativity you gave us to make our lives and the lives of others more interesting and joyful, in Jesus' name, amen.
