My Grace is Sufficient!

Paul wrote, "(The Lord) said to me, ' My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.' So I, (Paul) will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me." 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NRSV)

I started out in life as an "introvert". I also had a love for music but found I was lacking in some areas; 1) no natural sense of pitch and 2) no natural rhythm.  I took piano lessons when I was around ten years old, so i could find my pitches. Then I moved to Florida. You know the saying, "what you don't use, you lose." Well I didn't play for about 5 years and when I started I had lost most of my skills. In high school I was part of the music program, took a few voice lessons one summer, and improved my singing. But again, as I got older, I wasn't singing and when I started up again - you guessed it; I had lost most of my skills. It has been a long hill to climb, but with the help of people, like Steve Bayless, I have come back a long way.

About six years ago I started reading the Bible out loud, with David, as part of our daily devotions. I truly believe that this was a turning part in my spiritual life. In the past six years, my piano playing has greatly improved, my voice has actually changed, and I am no longer afraid of speaking in public.

I remember when God first called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses refused several times, saying that he was not an eloquent speaker (Exodus 4;10). But in spite of Moses' weaknesses, God still used him to lead a great nation, Israel, out of Egypt toward the Promised Land.

We all have weaknesses, but we don't have to let those become an excuse to refuse the work God calls us to do. God doesn't rely on our weaknesses but our willingness to trust in God's strength. This can give us full confidence to aim our best efforts toward doing great things to the glory of God.

I am grateful for the trust I have in God, because if I hadn't trusted Him to do what He has done for me, I would have missed out on so many blessings along this journey. It has been more amazing to me what God has done then for those of you who know me. So if you hear God calling you, please don't be afraid, but trust Him and receive His blessings in return.

Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, we have many weaknesses, but we know that we can do anything because You are our strength. Thank you for using us to Your glory and honor. Amen.
