Psalm 121: 1-8 " I look up to the mountain -- does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made the heavens and the earth. He will not let you stumble and fall; the one who watches over you will not sleep. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never tires and never sleeps. The Lord himself watches over you. The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not hurt you by day nor the moon at night. The Lord keeps you from all evil, and preserves your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever." (NLT)
Tracy Morgan, who lives in Nevada, like most people, lives a whirlwind life. Her days are filled with household duties, her job, her family, her friends, and various other obligations. At times, she feels overwhelmed by it all. But then, when she makes an effort to slow down and notice the beauty of God's creation, she remembers how God's presence and peace can be so readily surrounding her.
She is blessed to live in a beautiful mountainous place that she enjoys exploring by hiking with her happy, energetic golden retriever. One day as they were hiking, Tracy noticed the moon in the daytime sky -- though she had to look carefully to see it. This started her thinking: The moon is always there, whether we can see it or not. So it is with our God who is always here, watching over us, even when we do not particularly feel God's presence.
Since that day, she often notices the moon in the daytime sky. It also seems that she see it more often when she is feeling stressed, worried or sad. It has become a reminder for her that God watches over her. It brings her comfort and peace and always makes her smile. Our loving God is here for us all, right this moment and always.
Dear God, show us signs of Your love today, and help us to see them. Amen.
