Matthew 7:15 " 'Stop judging others, and you will not be judged. For others will treat you as you treat them. Whatever measure you use in judging others, it will be used to measure how you are judged. And why worry about a speck in your friend's eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying, "Friend, let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye, when you can't see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log from your own eye, then perhaps you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend's eye.' " (NLT)
For years a married couple shared a sink in their bathroom. Toothpaste was always splattered on the faucet - the spots put there, for certain, by the husband. It was a constant irritation to the wife. She would see the splatter and think, "Why can't he clean up after himself? or she would just be mad at his sloppiness. Then they moved into a new house with two sinks in the bathroom. One day the wife realized that her husband's sink and faucet were clean. Hers was covered with spots of toothpaste splatter. What a revelation that was, and how embarrassed the wife was to find it was her all along.
This realization caused her to reflect on Matthew 7:1-5 (NLT). Isn't it easy for us to think that we are perfect and to be critical of everyone else. Jesus didn't see people that way. He counseled us to examine our own flaws and to work to correct them according to God's will.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to be aware of our own failings and to be gentle with ourselves and others. As Jesus taught us, we pray, "Father, may your named be honored. May your Kingdom come soon. Give us our food day by day and forgive us our sins -- just as we forgive those who have sinned against us, And don't let us yield to temptation.: (Luke 11: 2-4) (NLT)
Thought for the day: When I am tempted to judge pthers, God can help me reflect on my own faults.
